Default DJI | iPad Ground Station

Can you only use an iPad with this? Or can you use a PC also?

You may fly using either. I like the user interface of the iPad over the PC.

Me too, until iOS7 hit my iPad 3....now no worky. I don't see how DJI couldn't have seen iOS7 released literally the week after the iOS GS hit the stores...big ooops.

DJI is not the only company having issues with iOS 7. There are many and only a few specifically ported for the 7.

Just spent the day flying my 550 using just the iPad. Time retire my neckstrap?

Maybe need to design an iPad neckstrap?

Yes, it's very cool. I just need to figure out a use for the waypoint feature other than just flying around a box. I am starting to experiment with mapping and mosaic making. I need to find a low-cost mosiac software that is smart enough to stitch photos together regardless of orientation. Believe it or not, Windows Photo Gallery now has a Panorama feature that does pretty good at mosaics. I haven't tried stitching more than a couple dozen images though.

The trick is to use the Scan Route Template, and obtain the proper track width for correct overlaps. The iOS GS doesn't support the Photogrammetry Tool like the PC based GS. Also, the iPad GS doesn't have the F-Channel Controller, so you can't even do servo actions using the iOS GS. Right now, it only flies the bird around, nothing else. Once some servo functions are ported to the iOS GS, then some real fun can happen, such as dropping parachutes, or taking precision photos.

Just updated to iOS 7 and my iPad GS app is toast. It can no longer save height, speed, heading or holdtime. Since my A2 is a paperweight, until the 50 waypoints are available, this was the only way to do a job I had scheduled for tomorrow. I did try the PC app but really stange things like the craft shown as inverted on occasion were occurring in sim mode, so that was enough of a red flag not to try that rig outside.

The logistics were a lot more comprehensive than normal. The usual Transport Canada open SFOC I have had to have a variance issued as I am flying close to an Airport and coordination with the flight tower had to be organized. All that work and not to mention my rep with the client just went poof.

Releasing an app that clearly states "optimized for iOS7" and is basically useless is kind of irresponsible if you are aiming at a pro market.

I think a bunch of gear has to be packed for it's trip back to the retailer, Thanks DJI.

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the iPad app? I would also try to reboot the iPad if still having issues.

Did a full restore twice. First time with cloud restore and then a complete fresh install.

When recalling a favorite, the names are not visible until one of them is touched. The icon that is dead center top looks like it's breaking apart a little. These are not good indicators.

In iOS6 the app worked fairly well aside from a few anomalies while running the sim. So the functionality was there.

I currently have iOS7.0.2 installed and cannot do a roll back as iTunes is no longer signing in anything prior to iOS7.0.0.

Easier to show than tell. Here is a quick vid. Justed posted, should be up in a bit.
DJI GS version optimized for iOS7 not working on iOS7 (2 min 17 sec)

Default Some Good News

Tried the Naza 2 at the field with the PC version of GS and it performed absolutely brilliantly. Ran a total 16 waypoints, all with the same Lat & Long coordinates and each waypoint rotating 45 degrees for a panoramic shot of 8 waypoints and then down 5 meters for another eight.

Why on earth did they botch the iPad version when the Naza 2 performs so well. DJI almost seems like two companies. One that's frackin' brilliant ad the other that...well...simply isn't.

Neat flight plan, I'm going to try that out tomorrow. I have not messed with headings on waypoints, yet. I'm glad to hear you were able to get your job done.

And yes, the PC ground station is pretty good, even if it doesn't look as elegant as some other ground station software suites. The photogrammetry tool is really cool, too...but the data reclamation is rather lacking for making geo-rectified mosaics.

Thanks for you encouraging me to use the PC GS. I appreciate your help. I might have a second chance with the client as today was just a test. Now if only our Vancouver weather will cooperate;-)

I wouldn't expect a fix for at least a month, however the iOS7 patch was out in a week. So, who knows?

Patch for GS last night. First look seems to fix most of the quirks. Going to take it out this afternoon to verify.
