Question 70a ESC up in smoke!?!?

So I have my bird up on the bench right, I plug my BeastX into my laptop to do a little precomp adjustment stuff. All the sudden my BL70G ESC sounds like bacon frying and goes up in smoke. This really ticked me off because it only has about 30 minutes of flight time on it. Is there anything that I might have done to trigger this? Thanks in advance for any input you might have.

Could it have been the power from the laptop going to the ESC at too high of a voltage?

I am trying to rule that out.

Did you have at least one cable of the esc connected to the motor? I burned one like that- the connection wasn't good and the esc fried the hell out if itself. So always have one cable connected!

I had actually just flown it. I didn't do anything after I landed other than disconnect the SYS plug and connect the USB.

Thanks. I'll keep all that in mind next time I feel like dropping $100 on an esc. I keep hoping that technology will give us an alternative to unstable and fragile esc's. In the 60's, they could make a television that would last 30 years, but can't make an esc last 30 min. Crazy stuff there.
