Default Setting up the ESC: No governor?

Hi all

In the setup video of the T-rex 500 ESC Bob chooses not to use the governor.

I have looked "everywhere" but I have not been able to see why you would want not to use the governor function, now it is there.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me, please?

Thanks in advance

Peter

Hi,

I wasn't aware that the ESC supports govener mode.
I'm receiving my kit this week. I will check it right away.
If it does support it, I am definitely planning to try it.

Yes the stock ESC does have a govenor mode but I have read that its performance is mediocre. I might give it a shot today to just see.

Align gov mode tends to pulse the motor, leading to a tail wag.

Would that recommendation apply for all - even a total newbie as me?

And is there no risk of "over driving" the motor without govenor?

Thanks

OK to use the gov on the ESC you have to give it some throttle head room. That means your throttle curve should be no higher than 70-80%. This allows extra room for the ESC to throttle up when needed. No if you want the lower head speed that 70-80% gives you then fine the gov might work for you. People flying 3D are setting the throttle curve to 95-100% FLAT and using a curve like this the gov doesnt help you and in fact can cause wag and other issues.

This is why hardly anyone uses the gov. They want the head speed and performance. If your just hover etc then sure try the gov.

Hi Bob

Thank you for your detailed reply.

Could I ask you for a recommended throttle curve to use with the governor enabled.

Thanks

You have to find it! With gov enable you increase your throttle curve little by little until the head RPM no longer changes. You then found your gov'ed head speed. Could be 40% could be 80%....

Watch my Castle HV85 setup video for the idea.
