Question newbe

New to heli's, experience w/nitro planes, I'm finding they are two completely different animals. I have a JR venture 30 nitro 550 & a blade 450x w/spektrum dx6i. Currently working w/blade 450. I purchased the pkg deal rtf , all settings pre set @ factory. In normal mode attempting hover, no wind, & mostly chasing it. If all settings r per the factory, & servos, swash r level @ mid stick, is it normal for the bird to wonder with out touching the elevator, alieron stick? Can I expect a quicker stick response by decreasing gyro gain?

Yes it is, you must keep constant correction on the sticks; FB a little more than FBL. Chasing is normal until you master the "being ahead" or "anticipate" the moves it'll do. You must go from proactive heli and reactive pilot to the other way around.

No, check your expos and dual rates for Ail, Elev. and Rudder.

Gyro gain has little to do with stick response.
On FB it regulates how sensitive the Yaw correction will be, according to head torque and weathervane effect.
On FBL it regulates how sensitive the Pitch, Roll and Yaw axis' will be.
Gyros in general dictate how "steady" the crafts will be, but you don't want too much of it causing twitchiness, nor too little causing lagging - mushy behaviour.

Hope this helps

Hello.
The best advice anyone could give you is. Stop flying your helicopters now before you crash one. Spend the money on Phoenix flight simulator.

Then spend several weeks or 6 months if that's what it takes flying the simulator or until you are no longer as you say chasing the helicopter. No need to bust up your helicopters learning how to fly.

We can help you get the simulator set up and provide DX6i settings that make the helicopters much more manageable.

You will find that the Venture 30 is a very nice helicopter!
Once you can fly the simulator this would be a very good helicopter. As far as helicopters go it's quite stable and easy to fly.
The catch is you first need to know how to fly a helicopter!

The problem is, if you clip a blade or bang it on the ground hard enough to cause a blade strike it's going to be a very expensive lesson. And a helicopter this size does not take much to cause a blade strike. Always set it down feather light.

Better yet, when you are getting comfortable in the simulator.

MCPX BL is a great first collective pitch helicopter. Very crash tolerant.
Your 450X and Venture 30 are not.

Then as the Venture is a flybar helicopter B450 3d if you can get your hands on one
would be a great helicopter for you for a flying season.

Then the Venture 30
This is a very nice helicopter. As helicopters go very easy to handle and a blast to fly,
but if you make a mistake with it, your looking at big bucks to fix it. so don't take chances with it.

If you want some help calming down your 450X we can provide you with settings that greatly reduce it's tendancy to over react to control input but even then the learning curve will be very steep and crashes fairly costly.

If you want to fly 450X
Simulator as suggested above.
Real world MCPX BL until you can fly it all day without crashing.
Then 450X for a season befor you fly the Venture

Welcome to helifreak.
Hope this helps you. Ron

I know this sounds harsh, Please understand that I'm not picking on you.
But it's what you need to hear.

It's not the helicopter it's the pilot, 450X is about as stable a helicopter as money can buy. You just need to learn how to tell it where you want it to fly.

NANO CPX SERVICE AND FLYING LINKS FOR NEWBIES
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=596574

Please read all of the documents in the newbies guide to flying Nano Section.
It will fill in a lot of blanks for you. Do not use the settings for your 450X.
Just learning X helicopter flight characteristics it will help you.

Please post your 450X - DX6i settings?
I'm sure we can tame the helicopter down for you in short order
