I think the thing you are missing is when you energize the system in HH what ever direction at that moment the heli is facing is what the tail gyro sees as straight ahead. If you pick it up and rotate it even a tiny bit it will give a input trying to get the tail boom back to where it was when it was powered up. I power up in stab mode and carry the heli to the take off location and set it down. I then switch to HH. With my Quarks the indicator light is red when in stab mode and blue in HH. I can look down and see the blue light when I an ready to fly. I fly in HH at 80% all the time.

This is the plus side of a 7ch Tx, and why it is on my high priority must have list! With the Dx6i that I currently have programming a straight switch like this is merely switching between differant gyro value settings to get the job done. In this sense it somewhat fools the flymentor into an hh mode.

What Microsoft software is your notebook running. FM+Helibal is meant for XP only.

I think that is what he says he is running Pril. Did you by any means change usb ports when moving back and forth between the splitter and usb link?

Oops, Missed that XP statement. Yep changing the USB port to 1 or 2 in the device manager sometimes helps crack it.
