Let me know what experiments you're planning, I love that kind of stuff. Even a PM in Dutch would be very much OK.

Just kinda busy with other stuff lately. R/C and non R/C related. As far as the R/C stuff goes, we (Erwin, another club member and myself) organised a club BBQ for +30 people last weekend, just to name something. Working on a bunch of (Dutch) stickies for our club website also. And modding the Logo600(SE) to push it to about 45 minutes of flight time, for the fun of it, but also to show what can be technically done nowadays. Some people even suggested to publish an article about it in the newsletter of our national R/C organization, if I would succeed. But the calculations are done, the rest is a matter of execution, lol. Who needs nitros ?

Raf, the moment you'll report even 60% success I'm copying your proprietary development ! I'll even sell one of my 600s if it's necessary! A couple of weeks ago in NZ I got impressed with a 2-stroke gasoline setup on an old Bergen 800, the guy was getting 45-50 minutes out of 600 ccm tank of gas, but I'd rather go electric.

Jerry, there are no real secrets, it’s rather simple in fact: a light 700 size heli using a motor with a low KV number, a small pinion, a very low headspeed using a controller that can handle low throttle curves without heating up, huge tailblades to keep some holding power in the tail, no flybar, a second set of flight batteries in a custom holder under the skids in parallel with the normal packs and asymmetrical mainblades will make for a first experimental setup to achieve long flighttimes. The pilot himself might be the first to fall down, as David already said, lol.

I imagined it would be something along these lines, but still, going from theory to a decently working prototype is always a huge step, not to mention very time consuming... Are you getting close to building it, Raf, or you're still deep in the drawing board stage?

Hi Redbird3000.
Thank you for this thread. This is the first piece of high quality real information about R/C products I have found searching the Interweb over the last year. It allowed me to complete my article "Before Buying" for my website SailServo. I hope you will allow me to use parts of it in my article with links back to the relevant posts so my readers can see the full text. SailServo was setup to sell Winch Drum Servos for sailing boats, the complete opposite to Helicopters. My research involved testing 13 of the 26 drum servos available in the UK and surprise, surprise they all were not what it said on the tin. Stall torque was overstated by as much as 60%. I have developed a new way of specifying them as Load @ 20% speed drop and sheet travel as sec/100mm. You made me think about something else. Latency of the complete chain Transmitter - Receiver - Servo. What consumers call precision/accuracy. I found a site which might interest you. RunRyder Once again Thanks. |
