I still want one, but still don't got no MSR. Plus, I'm still unsure of the added weight being an issue here.

Just add 5 gram to your new mSR and see if she can lift it. For a mSR in good shape it shouldn't be a problem. As I told you before: in case you need more thrust use the CNC blade holder and give the main blades a little more angle. But once again try the 5 gram trick before you do any mods.
For your information I'm working on an ultimate Scale Airwolf with scale landing gear, turbo's, nose antenna's, side guns etc. by using a genuine Airwolf mSR kit and a plastic Airwolf model. Everything will be scale and since it will be quite fragile due to all the details I'll use this one for easy demo flying. High speed and stunt flights will only be done with my sturdy original one w/o all the extra details.

Kinda off topic: Got the Airwolf complete first season this week, watching it as we speak.

That's the spirit!
Nothing more exiting then watching an episode and fly your Airwolf mSR right after this.

I've got all three seasons. Don't bother with the fourth, rumor is it sucks!
I'd love to see your fuse with the extra details!
One reason why I love my CB180Q, it's a beautiful Airwolf with all the proper details in it and it flies perfect! Just wish I could some how retract the gears on it.

Stick to the 3 first seasons, the other episodes are just cheap spin off's with recycled material, don't even look at it, it will spoil the other episodes.
Let's get back to topic now

Default Airwolf mSR Ultimate preview

to the loyal subscribers of this Airwolf mSR thread I present a sneak preview of the Airwolf mSR Ultimate under construction. Here you can see the detailed turbo's and the retractable nose gear. The nose gear is perfect scale and, best of all: it really retracts!

This is going to be even sweeter! Can't wait to see updates! I love updates!

Since there are no free channels on the mSR mechanics the retracts are operated by hand. Yes the main landing gears are gonna be retractable too but they're a little more complicated so I'm still working on this issue. The aim is to make it fly with the guns (and the ADF pod) extended but leave the choice for the landing gear up or down. Just for your info, this Airwolf mSR ultimate is not going to be available for serial production since the fuselage is exactly the same except for the details which are gonna be done on this unique case.

Well I figured that. What extra would it cost for you to replicate one of these "Ultimates" for me?

hmm perhaps a sensor of some kind could be used to retract. for example if the heli was a foot or less from the ground, wheels down. otherwise wheels up...

His point is because of the MSR's receiver, there is no way to add an extra servo for retracting it. Plus, all those mechanical bit's and the servo system would be much more weight that the MSR does not need. I think what he's doing so far is pretty awesome and doesn't need anything fancy.

Again, all this would be more weight the MSR can do without.

I'm affraid Marcwolf is absolutely right, the lightest servo plus a sensor would at least be an additional 4 grams plus 1 gram additional hardware plus 1,5 gram for the details would make the total weight over 38g. that's about 35% heavier than the original setup. I'm affraid it won't take off anymore and if it still does I do question the flightbehaviour and the limited flighttime.
Manualy operated retracts and details only add about 1.5 gram, this is still acceptable.

then I guess it would require a motor upgrade

I'm not sure if there is a motor upgrade suitable for the MSR. I did see somebody hack to death the frame and custom fit a brushless motor, but from what I've been told brushless doesn't really give more power, just makes it more efficient. If your going to go with a more powerful motor, different electronics package and what not, you might as well build the helicopter from scratch in which case it'll no longer be an MSR anymore.

bigger motor means bigger batteries. i mean if you really need all that why don't you get a 500 with a 9 channel receiver. then you have all the power you need i happen to like the idea of retractable gear even if they are manual. its about looks when its flying gear up is gear up weather its manual or auto it still looks the same. i think its cool that 1 they are creating scale gear for it and 2 that they do retract

I agree, keep the MSR simple or it'll loose it's charm.
I think what AirwolfRCPilot is doing here is just perfect. Nothing else is needed.
I'll save the retracts/lights for my 450.
