Great.

So you're absolutely sure the gyros are all compensating the correct way.
No binding anywhere.
Tx curves setup.
All nuts, bolts etc double checked, especially the head and tail? Maybe do that again while waiting for the batt charge, just to be sure

If you don't have a decent soldering iron.. go down to radio shack and get at least a 40W iron for those pack/wire harness wires.. You need a LOT of heat to get a good joint. If one failed, your buddy who soldered it didn't use enough heat, and you will likely have another failure.. I'd start over with that wiring harness that you had him make.. Take a few hours, watch a few youtube videos on soldering, practice on some old wire, and you'll be good to go.

.....and we were just talking about 'trusting' others work a few pages ago.

Where did the solder fail? A main battery, ESC?

Oops. I guess it didn't post. Yes i re soldered it. I got the wire trapped in something and then pulled, obviously it would come off.

So, you re-soldered it and it pulled apart again?? Or it's all good now?

Did all your connections end up shiny? If they are dull or dry looking they will get hot and can de-solder themselves in flight depending on how dry the joint is.

mechanical strength =/= good electrical continuity

Sounds to me like you should look at all of your solder joints. Even with what you described above you should not be able to pull a solder joint apart if done correctly. It sound to me as if not enough heat was used in the solder job and this leads to cold solder joints. What you described above in my book is a cold solder joint. If soldering is done correctly the joint is just about as strong as the metal you have soldered onto and the wire itself will strech and break before you can break the bond of the solder to the connector.

Hope this helps....

This battery got soldered with bad solder and a cheap soldering iron. The rest are Done with 30-130 wat soldering iron

You mean a quick heat 30/130 iron like this?

Worst possible type of iron to solder battery connections with. Small tip, doesn't hold enough heat to make a good connection. You want a slow heating iron with a big fat tip to hold enough heat to melt the solder properly.

You really really need to carefully check and if needed re do, all the joints on your heli/batteries.

Is anyone else who is reading or commenting on this thread get the feeling that we are being "punked?" I mean, really, someone who is building a 700 can't be having THIS MANY bizarre, dangerous, off-the-wall issues!!!!

Better to be safe then sorry. Remember, This helicopter can kill someone, I chose to be smart and check with my fellow helifreakers. If you can't respect someone trying to be safe, I do think you should reply asking that. I am not directing it at you or anything but I'm sure everyone can understand or even relate to this.

No, I don't think we are being "punked". You obviously don't comprehend that an inexperienced teenager is building it. At least Sladex is asking questions, before getting completely dangerous with it.

+1

Yes, it doesn't help matters that he has skipped quite a few 'rungs on the ladder' moving staight to a 700 more or less.

Which can be done I might add, as only a few years back if you wanted to learn you had a 30 size and that was that, pretty much. But most learners had experienced heli flyers teaching not only flying skills but building also, which is not the case here unfortunately.

I just bought a second hand 700, but I might set up my 450 with FBL before I try flying after reading this thread. The 700 has a helicommand rigid on it now, although I have a beastx which a friend said I should use and sell the helicommand.

The 700 is a big step up from what I'm used to but I have no plans to rush it. I wasn't even going to buy one this year except that a friend was selling one.
