Well after several hours of fighting all I have to show is a busted motor...the bottom bearing was so tight that instead of the bearing popping out, the inner race of the bearing just gave way, so all the little ball bearings fell out and of course all that was left was the outer race which is now impossible to remove from the collar thing.
Really pisses me off that there was nothing I could do about it.

Now for a new motor...

I just get a scorpion 1600kv and fly in this morning , the result not good for me , flying time is down to only 3 min , the power down too, i can not do tic toc , with stock motor I do tic toc very well , my esc is CC 80 , flat curve 100% , timing set 7 (default of cc is 5 ), 2650 mah zippy , so what esc that scorpion motor work good with ?

3 min flight and can't do a tic toc? Sounds like something is wrong. My 1600kv and scorpion esc has insane power. What is your head speed? What pinion? How old are the batts?

My TREX 500 motor bearings are going bad. Can you tell me what size I need to order?

The sizes and part #s are in the video. People have also linked to boca bearing replacements in this thread.

great post and thank you!!! ive been chasing a issue with my heli for a week now, in idle up the heli would drift all over and the tail was jumpy. after reading this and watching the vid i checked mine and sure enough the bottom bearing was trashed and the upper wasnt in the best shape either.

lucky i had extra bearings laying around swapping bearings was straight forward thanks to the vid

I found the sealed bearings at finless link but it didnt say if they what abec rating they were. if someone has a link that would be great.

at this time helidirect is out of any usfull bearings.

I have most of the bearings in stock. I can get sealed bearings as well. Mine are all ABEC-3 or better.

happened to me today. i used a propane torch to heat it up and put a drill bit that barely fit in and slowly rocked it out

you still have your parts?

Good idea. I was going to suggest an Easy-Out (for removing broke off screws).

Thanks for this info, this is great! I replaced the bearings with Boca Ceramic SS abec Bearings. I bought them directly from boca for like 20 bucks each. I dont use the engine since I got the scorpion, but its ready for back up.

Thanks Jared and everyone for this excellent how-to,
It worked for me for the Motor RCM-BL430SP that came on my Trex 450 Pro Super Combo, and in case that could help anyone these are the specs of the bearings.

d = 3.5mm D = 7mm B/T = 2.5mm
and
d = 4mm D = 8mm B/T = 3mm

Everything is possible with the right tools
