I haven't been gentle with mine, it's experienced a lot of full pitch full power drag racer takeoffs, as well as plenty of loops and rolls and very high speed FF. Granted, I've done no extreme stick-banging, but it's been loaded up with lots of pitch and speed with no weirdness noted.

I would not bother trying the Protek blades, although if you are into very 'nervous' twitchy flight you might like them. I never could get a locked-in feeling with them, despite several tweaks to the software. The SABs fly exactly like I want them to, and I suspect Radix would too (I haven't tried them yet).

I also added some stiffness to the bottom of the frame and run with the CNC blade grips..(the stock grips will work just fine with a fbl system)

Did you lowered the head ?

It seems you used stock balls with a spacer on the grips, how is the resolution ?

Sure did.. And I love it.. Feels more connected and it flies tighter. Doesn't feel loose..

I drilled through the main hub and connected the main shaft up further. Nothing binds and no boom strikes..

My head setup is a bit different now but I still have the lowered head..

Well this is what I came up with. A friend had a set of Atom grips so I just had to try anyways. Thanks for the info on the plastic head, I may try the plastic in the future as I have plenty of spare of those, not to mention spindles and bearings.

Sorry for the horrid pictures, using my Iphone and it sucks on close ups. I modded the stock swash driver, cut one of the alignment pin from the head, pulled the other pin and and tapped to place a machine screw to keep it in place. I used longer end of the mixing arm to attach the swash lever. Since the spindle on the Compass was larger I enlarge the hole to 1/4" to have some play else the head would be extremely rigid. Spacers from a Trex500 head made the grips fit the head block as the spindle was longer.

If I had used the plastic grips, the only thing needed was the ball extension. The swash driver can easily be modded and with the correct modification to the mixing arm it lines up perfectly with the blade grips. You get full travel and you would only be limited by the swash movement around the main shaft.

Well darn it! I did not have all the parts to fix this heli, someone here in SoCal needs to carry parts for this heli! I am out of servo mounts, a main gear and I managed to loose the pulley on the frame when it crunched. I did put the CF frame together and it went rather well. I feel there is much more room for the V-bar than the plastic frame

bpd, I like your mod on stiffening the frame, was there a problem?

It would be nice to see a CNC servo holders, I would order one. When the plastic holder would shatter so does my servo cases.

Is that system something that you are going to make available for the Protos?

Yes

Flybarless upgrade will contain:

1 - New spindle (a bit longer to eliminate delta)
2 - New spindle spacers
6 - Hard damper orings
1 - Antirotation bracket
2 - Long ball links

Corrado

Removing the weight makes the Protos very fast on cyclics - but very unstable in fast flights as well, unfortunatly. V-Stabi 4.0 offers you the best of both worlds at the same time! Your Protos will run like hell on fast forwards, with ZERO tendecies regarding nose-up e.g. - handsfree!! - and will be EXTREMLY fast on rolls and flips, if you like...
Normal V-Stabi fits well under the receiver in the framespace. Sensor up, wher normaly the gyro is seated.
Mini-V-Stabi will be available this summer, but I'm quite sure, that some more weeks are needed, before release will happen...

WooHoo!!

I was just about to start a thread begging Corrado for a factory conversion kit.

Oh no, I just heard the sound of $500 puffing up into a ball of flames.

AHA!!!!!!! Corrado, you been working on something and did not tell us!!!!

Removing weight is okay! You add more flight time with batteries instead! IMHO, it does not need to be any lighter than 1600 grams, it gets windy here.

Great news! I was waiting for this Any chance you can get the head lowered with a shorter main shaft too?

If you are on VBar 4.0 the choice of blades isn't as significant as it was on 3.16 those blade should be fine.

Looks like my setup now using Trex 500 standoffs and a custom made CF anti-rotation guide. The only change I suggest is offering a shorter mainshaft.

My issue with going flybarless on my Protos is not getting enough servo travel before the servo arms bottomed out on the frames. It might be because I'm using JR servos which seem to have the servo output shaft much lower compared to futaba or hitec servos. I had to crank my cyclic ring way up to keep the servo arms off the frames.
