My take on firmware 4.0
First off this revision is amazing and truly transforms the unit for the better.
All my sk540's needed to be cleared via the bind plug to allow for binding to dsmx. My one 720 black had an error where a value was out of bounds. One had the banks switched when I reloaded the old file. All tails had to be set up manually. The helis that seemed to respond the best were the ones I did a full setup from scratch. All helis needed the overall cyclic gain decreased by 5-10 points in the dx8. So after upgrading 7 helis this is my suggestion. Write down all the values on a sheet of paper before upgrading, specifically the servo centering trims, especially the tail. Next power up the unit with a lipo plug it into a computer and do the upgrade. Disconnect insert bind plug to top row ext lead and pin 2 over. Plug the battery back in then the USB within 1 second of the power. This should have fully cleared the unit! Disconnect everything and plug the unit into the computer and there should be a blank model. Bind dsmx satellites as per usual process. Redo the setup either by entering the numbers from scratch or redo the wizzards. Make sure the swashplate is level at mid stick as mechanical trim is not needed. Recheck all the values and compensations. Do a test hover to make sure everything's reacts as it should and adjust the gains. Then go fly the snot out of the heli! Just my suggestion.

I have been patiently waiting to upgrade my 540 and LCD terminal to the latest firmware. I'm still on 3.43 since I have it tuned well and the heli is flying great. I always wait a while after new firmware is released until all the bugs are worked out. I know Art has been busy with getting everything updated and patched, but I thought Skookum would address those small issues you mentioned (DSMX and the tail wizard) in the latest release ( I believe it was with the LCD release). I will take your advice if these issues aren't patched soon for my upgrade.

About two years ago, Georgi set me up with a program that takes screen shots on the laptop. So I take a screen shot of each tab and setup screen throughout the Skookum before I upgraded each unit. Then just pull up the screen shot and do a side by side exact copy as I manually input the info into place. Then going back and centering the gymbals again and resetting the esc end points. As they will most certainly be different. I also noted my gov gains and overall gains changed where they needed to be set in the 4.0. Gps values also needed a very close look. The screen shots made this much much easier than copying down all the values by hand.
The app is called MWsnap 3.

I also discovered that my Windows 7 machine has a standard snipping tool under accessories. It's actually quite nice and I prefer it over my other 3rd party one that I have used for some time.

I installed the new FW on 4 helis ( one not mine ) and things were whack for sure.
I had all the setting saved on my PC so I just selected a new 3D profile, sent it to the FBL, then went and opened up the original file and loaded it. Everything was perfect. Maybe some minor value adjustments, but everything functioned correctly and didn't need to reset anything. Other than a few GOV setup issues, ( part of my new SK learning curve ) these SKs have just setup and flown without a hiccup. |
