I'm gathering tools together ready for my purchase of Trex 500 in the New Year, and I've already bought a mini electric drill. Do I need Metric or Imperial bits for the build. Thank you.

As far as I can recall its all metric 1.0/1.5/2.0/2.5/3.0 Allen heads

If you wind up without the correct bits, you can easily break the "L" shaped ones that come in the kit at the bend (they break and don't bend) and then chuck the straight part in your drill.
Personally I'd do it all by hand on a 500. My 550 had nothing that needed a powered driver. Most screws go into metal and can be rapidly inserted and removed by spinning a hand held driver at the shaft between you fingers.

Maybe you got a powered driver with a more delicate clutch than mine.

Never used a drill on a heli screw yet ( unless of course doing a modification). Get yourself a decent set of drivers like MIP and you'll be good to go.

+1 on the MIP! They are a little expensive but they're worth the price.

i use mip drivers. 500 dominator 1.5, 2, 2.5mm is all you'll need. make sure to have another 2.5 allen or something for the feathering shaft bolts

Get a decent solder iron work station. You won't regret it. Also a magnifying lamp.

You will definitely need a soldering iron and the associated tools for it. I would suggest weller, but any decent brand and atleast 40w will work. I use 80w and it is more than enough.

i used the same $50 aoyue 937 for like 3 years before i replaced it. it still works, i just got something better. it takes hakko tips and i used it for pretty much everything. i needed to preheat bigger escs and wires but it got the job done. i solder a lot too. the ones from sra soldering supposedly have higher qa standards but thats just what i heard.

also just saw the mip 1.5 2 2.5 set on amain for 25 bucks. i paid 40 i think.

it was good enough to get a 2nd set that will just stay in the 500 bag so i dont have to take the ones off my bench.
