Default AMA Nats rules for helis

I was reading the rules to see what I need to do to compete this year.

I also read a article posted in the RC HeliPilot mag for Feb/Mar and rules seem to conflict.

The AMA rules state no flybarless controller only tail gyro and 42 volts on power system. That would limit you to 10s setup and like I said a flybar system.

In the article he used a vbar controller. I am confused.

I can confirm you can use 12s and a FBL controller. Most were using this combination last year. I don't know why the rules aren't reflecting this.

I was thinking of starting Ircha early and doing the Nats this year. Finding a flybar is getting harder and harder even though I have 2.

I don't recall anyone using a flybar last year.

I've not seen any flybars in any videos that I've seen on youtube in competition in recent years. Interestingly some argue that flybars could be more stable for F3C compared to flybarless. Anyone care to comment on the stability differences between both platforms as I have a flybarred heli and am thinking of keeping it for this reason?

2015 was the first time FBL was allowed in the FAI F3C World Championship. It's my understanding that only one, possibly two FB machines were in use at the 2015 WC.

I can't make the comparison myself, but it's tough as the FBL software is continually improving. It's the software that makes the difference.

In the end it's the pilot more so than the software regardless of which type of machine your flying. I'm lucky if I can get my heli to stay in my backyard while I hover let alone perform F3C flight but I hope to get there one day.

Hello

I wrote that article and like you I read the rules last year and they said the same then.

Seems the need to get with the times.

FBL are allowed.

The speed thing does not interest me and I would like to compete so I guess I will start practicing and get ready.

Thanks for the help.

Snowing in Wisconsin so I guess outside practice will have to wait.
