Default 300X - motor and ESC alternatives?

Guys, I'd like some more power. And an ESC with governor. Any suggestions? (10 tooth setup)

Just saw this motor:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...or_4200kv.html

This ESC?
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...hless_ESC.html

or this?
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Governor_.html

Anyone tried?

I considered the HK 4200kv motor but then found a good deal on a scorpion 2208-4660. I have an Align 35 amp with governor and it's a nice and smooth setup. Make sure you can program the ESC.

I'm using the YEP45a esc from HK and it works great. Using it with the Wicked motor from Astroid.

I was looking for a smaller YEP, but seems that's the smallest one there is?

Is it 63 grams? How much is the stock?

Stock shaft is 2mm?

I'm thinking 20A is a bit on the low side for the ESC, but want something light. The 40A Otter is very light. But reviews seem a bit mixed...

This maybe (only 25 g): http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...hless_ESC.html

Great, thx!

Can suitable pinions with 2mm bore be found? Std gear pitch?

The stock pinions are mod .5 pitch.for 2.3mm shaft

There are plenty of .5 mod, 2.3mm pinions out there from lots of places, probably best not to get the press fit type.

For the motor above a 10 tooth is probably pretty close. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...rSearch=pinion

Or get a few at a time in different sizes. http://www.readyheli.com/HZ020-Align...m_p_34120.html

Actually opening my eyes I now se that this Turnigy motor also has 2,3 mm shaft, so stock pinions should fit just fine

Thx guys!

I'm only familiar with the BLHeli governor, which can be set to whatever throttle value you may with, works great.

After reading the manual of the Otter and Turnigy SuperBrain, I see that they have governor on/off and governor auto/low/high.

How does that work? For on or high - does that mean that it governs to the highest headspeed possible with still overhead?

The YEP45 looks great, but too heavy. But I'll go for that one when I'm ready for 6S in my 450

Bought my dons wicked motor today, yep 45's all out of stock what other esc would be recommended for the dons with a 10t pinion? I would like one I can buy the program card for as I hate setting up esc with stick inputs.

would this one fit and work ok?

Looks good, Hobbywing should be good stuff! Use that in some of my competition RC cars, very smooth.

Will be very interesting to test the ikon FBL controller with PROACTIVE governor!!! (vs reactive ESC governor)

Talking Update

Things take time... but now I finally got all the gear (minus the iKON FBL controller)..

Here's what's included in the box as to the Turnigy and the Wicked from Astroid:

Both come in a simple cardboard box. The Turnigy comes with a 12 and 13T pinion, which is not something we can use on the 300X. It also comes with male and female connectors plus shrinkwrap.

The Wicked comes with a 9 and 10T pinion - perfect! No connectors are included here.

KV ratings:
Turnigy 4200 KV
Stock E-Flite 4500 KV
Wicked 4800 KV

Now on to weight:

Can you guess which one is heavier?

------Stock E-Flite 39,4 grams ----------Turnigy 41,5 grams ---------------Wicked 54,2 grams -------

So the Wicked is a lot bigger and heavier - now clearly this thing must give us some more grunt!

I will be testing a Turnigy SuperBrain 40A ESC as well, and it is actually lighter then the stock 25A!!!

Also bought a USB linker and programming box for the Turnigy:

I'm not a big fan of stick programming or listening to "distress signal" beeps from the ESC either!

It has logging and a governor function too. We'll see how well it works...

I'll do test installs later today time permitting.

To be continued...
