Default Zyx and Trex 500

Hey guys converted my trex500 to flybarless with the tarot fbl head. The Align manual says to run the servo arms at 13mm from center but i have read several posts saying that is incorrect. Ihave seen youtube videos of guys running 16, and 18mm Does anybody know definitively?

13-16mm is the range for a 500-class. I'd start at 13 and see if the geometry works out. You should be able to get 12* collective with a pitch range setting <80 on the gyro. If you need 85 or more, go to 16mm.

So is the 19mm hole I use for flybarred out of the question? The only reason i ask is because when i move the servo ball to 16mm the servo goes from being very quiet to being very chattery around center stick kind of like they are binding. When i move them back out to 19mm they are very quiet and center nicely. Im using the stock ds510s.

With servo arms at 19mm you'll have too much mechanical gain on cyclic and an improper geometric relationship between collective and cyclic pitch, resulting in poor handling and possibly wobble of death (WOD), or you'll have to run really low gains on the gyro, none of which is a fun way to fly...

That being said, binding isn't good. Try to figure out where the binding occurs and rectify it mechanically.

Thanks Dr.M I have been doing some looking around and noticed the stock servo horns for the 500 EFL have two holes one at 18mm and one at 21mm. So wouldnt I be using longer than 16mm according to align?

It's unlikely the ZYX will work with servo horns at 21mm on a 500 bird. A simple rule of thumb is to make your servo horns about half as long as the length of the main blade pitch arms, as measured parallel to the tail boom, from the ball to the center of the main shaft.

You'll get the definitive answer during the ZYX setup, where you'll try to get 12° max collective by adjusting the Collective Range setting on the gyro using the PC software or field programming box. This number should be between 60 and 80. If it's lower than 60, your cyclic servo arms are too long, if higher than 80, servo arms are too short.

Thanks Dr.M I assumed 21mm was too much was more asking about the 18mm.
