Exclamation Mod 1.0 stripping slipping autorotation bearing?

New maingear, just took her up to a hover, and on a gentle pump in normal-mode, I hear a scream, and suddenly confetti all over the field. I can count the teeth left on the gear left.

Under closer inspection, I see my auto-rotation sleeve is rotating in the hub. Can this cause the stripping of the gears? I do have the plastic pinion-bearing block, but there are no signs of it giving in. Not with all my force am I able to press it out of position. The bearings are also fine.

No other damage to the heli though, but help me out here. Why are my gears being eaten?

Possibly the wrong gear then or deffective. I would make sure that the alignment with the gear / mesh is the way it should be. There isn't any reason it should do that unless the gear mesh is not correct or the gear that is on the clutch bell is the wrong one for the M1..

This machine was converted to mod 1.0 summer last year, and it has worked flawlessly for about 200 flights now.

What I have dug up from older treads is that the clutch block will give in after a while. A fix is the metal one, so that is on order right now.

I did what I read Tim Jones did with his plastic clutch block, and that was sand them lightly so they grip a little tighter on the bearings.

The mesh is tight. I would like a hair backlash, but I guess the gear will wear in some since its new.

Thanks for the input, greatly apreciated

The auto hub slipping can cause the gear to strip (when it re-engages suddenly)
Rebuild & re-loctite the sprag bearing assembly.

Thank you sir! That was a suspicion I had, but could not find any confirmation of.

I flew today, with mod 0.7 (it was all my LHS had at the time) with the 0.7 pinion. After sanding the motor pinion block, and also securing the bearings with some shooglue. The sprag was ruffed up some with sandpaper, so was the inside of the hub, cleaned with alcohol and epoxied into place again.

I could hear some "cracking" sound, but I could fly fairly hard without anything failing. Mod 1.0 and metal bearing block is on the way, so I guess this wont be anything but a vague memory..

It would be best to use bearing retainer (rather than epoxy) to secure the outer sprag into the hub assembly.

Good luck!

Thanks, are there any big disadvantages in using epoxy?

I'm not saying Epoxy won't work, however Epoxy isn't really designed for that purpose, where as Bearing Retainer is.

ie:
Bearing Retainer would certainly create a reliable bond, not sure about the Epoxy.

Strange. I have M1 main and the regular auto rotation gears. The auto rotation gear was stripped. I never could find where the problem is. Replaced the rest with M1 and problem solved.
