OK Gentlemen,

I just finished setting up my G31 and got the heli flying well. There are a couple counter-intuitive things I want to point out to any newcomers.

1. As mentioned here, the tail servo requires separate power. While this is mentioned in the manual, it is unlike any other FBL that I have set up. Simply plugging one of the female>female servo leads from the SRX1 unit to the SRX2 ports will provide power when using a Spektrum satellite.

2. AFAIK, channel 5 (Gear) MUST be used for gyro gain, unlike BeastX and 3GX.
How to: Setting up a JR 9303 transmitter to control a gyro connected to a 6-channel receiver (12 min 44 sec)
Before doing this, the tail servo was behaving very strangely. When I first set it up, it ignored the limits set in software. The second time I set it up, the tail would not move at all, except for a slight precomp reaction. Correctly setting gyro gain (to 70 in my case,) fixed these issues. When in doubt, you can monitor what the gyro gain is on the first tab in the PC setup.

So far I have only had a chance to hover it in the garage. I'm hoping to take it out to the field tomorrow.

***UPDATE***

Found my problem. It was neither the gyro or my setup. The nice expensive Maverikk G5 blades I just bought were obviously causing a harmonic vibe. They were balanced and tracked, and regardless of headspeed it had the same issue.

I put my cheap Turnigy carbons back on and she was like butter. No drift what-so-ever. It actually feels better with my old blades.

Special thanks to all you guys who helped me out, and big shout out to Luvmyhelis for his insight on the matter. He said it was blades, and he was right in the money!!

I'm ready to beat this b*tch down like a $2 hooker now!!!

Just picked mine up from the post office since the mailman couldn't ring a doorbell.

I am looking at this and liking it. I may pull my BX off my 250 and put this on there. Remote gains would just make it so flexible.

Now that mine is all lined out I can say that it feels more connected. It's nice to be able to tune your pitch and roll rates...something that is very limited on the Bx.
It's a very nice package with no extras to buy, and priced just right.

Here's what the vibe log showed today. The first three are with the Mavrikk blades, the last is with the Turnigy's.
You can see a clear spike in same general rpm. Tail vibes are clean. The last shot looks a little more as it should.

I think I am going to love the vibe analyzer. When I ordered it, I thought it was going to be just live view for doing analysis, but that it logs for diagnosis after the fact is amazing. Also, as a built in tach for measuring head speed will be nice. No more needing a person standing by to tell me what I'm at or recording audio.

One thing that bothered me was the separate power bus for tail. I see the benefit of it for those running their tail at a separate voltage, but even that can easily be handled without it. I have done a mod and have posted a how-to thread here https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=477043

this is for if you are only using a satelite, correct. if you're using an rx, it doesn't apply, cause i am not having any issues with using the rx. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Nope - you don't need to do this if using a receiver as it will get power for the Tail servo from the Gain lead

Correction, actually the tail servo gets its power from the Rudder channel lead.

Any ideas on how the Robird gets the rpm figures in the vibe log? I could see how If I were using the gov sensor, but I'm using a full rx..so no rpm sensor. I'm not THAT worried about accuracy in that respect, after all..a vibe is a vibe regardless. Just wondering.

I received some Spektrum capacitors today and made up a "Y" lead to test if It would stop the Sat. RX from browning out on the Heli w/ 4 KST 215 servos. I wired it up between ESC and G31. On the bench I can now hammer the Collective stick all day and the Sat. Rx never browns out. Now I have to wait for the Y leads I ordered to come in to tidy up the wires on heli.

You have a link to the capacitors? I'm thinking about putting one inline in my bec lead. I have an Exceedrc hv ubec 7.5a..never had an issue, but I never really pushed it hard either.
