Default Raptor 90 G4 FBL nitro configuration

Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking of buying a Raptor 90 G4 FBL nitro. As i have no experience with nitro heli, I currently fly a TRex 550 and 450 electric, i would like to know what i need for building the R90 as a nitro bird. Below i have a list of what i think i need, could someone correct me or add whatever i need to the list for making the R90 flying? I also would like to hear your configurations, what type of engine, battery, servo's,.... are there any specifications i need to pay attention to?

* 3 x servo for the swashplate
* 1 x servo for the rudder
* 1 x servo for the carburetor
* engine
* rx
* FBL system (beast X???)
* Battery
* Fuel
* glowplug (spares)
* ....

Thx in advance for your replies!!

You will also need a muffler for the engine and a starter as well. A fuel pump and a 1.5v glow driver to warm the glow plug. That and everything on your list should be all you need to get started.

Go with either an OS91 or a YS90 engine. Both are good. But make sure you choose your muffler after you have decided what engine you want to use as there are different muffler designs.

There are many different servos that work well. Just make sure you have good torque and decent speed.

Enjoy. It is a great heli.

Looks good sir! Let us know how it goes together!

Don't forget you'll need a glow plug igniter too if you haven't gotten one!

The "B6T 2 in 1 voltage regulator (align)" acts also as a glow plug igniter. i've added some pics to show. I hope it's a good system...

I started the build of my R90 today. For the moment everything is straight forward, no problems so far... I've posted some pics and will try to keep on posting pics until the build is finished...

Some updated pics on the build...

I had 2 problems:

1. the holes in the tail drive pulley didn't line up with the holes in the main shaft. I took my about an hour to insert and fix the two damn screws. One of the holes lined up perfect and the other one was slightly off the right (a little bit less than a millimeter)

2. and this is a real problem i think, after installing the engine in the main frame i noticed that the throttle lever on the carburetor is touching the cooling fan casing. Did anyone also had this problem, and what did you do to fix it? (see picture nr 3)

You don't need all four sides of the throttle lever. It looks plastic like a servo arm. I'd cut all but one side off as it looks like you can remove it and adjust it like you would with your servo arms.

Edit: Looking at the first engine picture you posted, it comes with a single arm throttle lever. I'd use that.

Default Tail Blade Grips

I think I may have a problem with my build or is that normal. The tail grips have play in and out. All three washers are in place and still have play. Layers are as follow, bearing, washer, thrustle bearing, washer, bearing, washer and screw.

Thanks
Gene

It is normal to have play in/out in the tail grips.

I dont have a G4 so i cant comment specifically on its tail designs but i have had heli's in the past that have in/out play on the tail hub.. Once they start spinning the centrifugal force locks all the bearing..etc in place and the works fine.

do you have to remove an entire side frame panel to get the fuel tank out?

i've never seen the blade links connected though the radius arms on FBL before...how is that working out? most run straight the the swash...right?

i like the helical tail TT gears! the big main gear looks nice too!

the advertisements mention pre-adjusted linkages from bellcrank to swash and show two drivers holding the bellcranks in place for initial setup....does that actually work well in setup or is it marketing hype?
