12FGH Charger compatibility
I just bought a Futaba 12FGH radio. When I wanted to fast charge the battery with my chargers I noticed that the leads that I used to use with my 9CHP do not fit the 12FGH. I'm planning on cutting the lead/cable from the charger that comes with the radio and solder some banana plugs, but I'm wandering if there is any reason not to do this other than ruining the charger that came with the radio. I can't find any aftermarket charge leads that come with banan plugs. do you know of any reason not to do this?
Thanks for your advice. |

Hi, I have been lurking and never posted; and just wanna give my 2 cents worth of thought.
I too was in this predicament coz somehow my charger was kaput after using it twice. Instead of cutting the wires, remove the screws ( you need the star shaped bits) and unsolder the wires instead. That way, you can resolder the joints should you change your mind. Mine is plugged in to another brand of aftermarket charger. Lawrence A after thought.... the 12FG bats behave like eneelop bats, as in it holds its charge and doesnt discharge like normal aspirated NiMH. IMHO I wont fast charge them, instead do a 10 hour charge. |

Thanks for the tip urawildman. To mee it seems counter intuitive to the way NiMH chemistry works not to fast charge them. I would guess that the whole idea behind the "no other charger should be used but those specified by futaba" is nothing more than the manufacturer not wanting customers to buy anything but their own brand. However I'm curious if there is anything in the radio that woul proscribe the use of an aftermarket charger. In other words would I fry something in the electronics of the radio if I fast charge the battery with another brand charger (i.e. intelipeak Ice or Super Brain 977) when the battery is inside the radio? My guess is it wouldn't but I just want to be sure before I try it.

i believe the main reason they used a different sized plug was because of the cell count being different since it is not the normaly 8 cell pack like most transmitters. I just hacked the plug off of my charger and use it on my normal charger.
