Default 500 Success

My 3G for the 500 came with V2.1 already installed (stamped on the case). I already had a Spartan gyro and so, seeing the problems people were having, I simply kept the Spartan which was mounted on the tail block. The 3G gyro went on the receiver tray with a single layer of tape and the receiver stayed on the bottom tray. I had to tap new threads into the blue servo arm at 13mm on the 5425MG servos.

The setup of angles was a breeze using the rigid flybar gizmo on top of the head. No more flopping around of the old flybar while setting levels. I do use a swash leveling tool to ensure accurate swash level.

First lift off was nearly a disaster. It tried to flip over to the right. Quickly cut the power and had a further look. I hadn't noticed that during the setup, the swashplate moved very rapidly only a small amount in roll. So, a quick reversal of the aileron channel and all was well.

I'm no 3D flyer, only basic flips rolls, loops, etc. I must say it flew very nicely with the standard settings. I might try the tail function of the 3G in the future, but why bother when the Spartan is rock steady.

Using the tail gyro from the 3G will give you piro optimisation, which the seperate tail gyro cannot. Try pirouting in FF and you will see the heli drifting of due to the sidethrust from the tail rotor, nearly all FBL systems correct this for you and pirouting FF is a breeze.
