Ikon on 7hv
Decided to go with ikon on my soon arriving 7hv. Has anyone tried it? Did you end up with mostly default head PID gains or was much tweaking needed? Thought I might get a head start on tuning if anyone has tried it.

Ikon on 7hv
The Compass TracX FBL controller is the same as the iKon, so the iKon should work well. Sorry I don't have any experience with it.

I am using it on my 10 flight old 7hv.
Default settings were almost perfect (sport / big air), except I always increase my piro rate. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk |

As per other thread mines ready for testing - I'm using the TracX which is the same unit. I fly 3D, big air and Low RPM 3D so will post how it goes.

No experience on an icon.
Have you considered the Spartan VX1n? The price is really good and the performance excellent. |

I have used Brain in my 7HV for year and 5 months now. Works extremely good and governor is also great. I'm using default 3D settings, haven't touch to PID settings.

3d/big air. I'm not a pro but I would say I fly pretty aggressive. Funnels, tic tocs, sloppy piro flips. I like really quick snappy cyclic. High cyclic response (paddle sim on vbar). The external gov is pretty important to me. Ikon gov is doing really well on my 6hv.

If you've already setup one on the 6HV should be easy to set one up on the 7HV. I'm heading to the field today hopefully so will let you know what I find.

im sure setup will be a breeze. hopefully it wont require a lot of tuning. i dont have a laptop so i have to make adjustments at home and then test at the feild. been thinking about grabbing a cheap notebook so i can hook up to ikon and castle at the feild. would make things much easier. sucks that i cant use my ipod

Grab a little NetBook. I steal my wife's all the time, very convenient.
It's small, bright and has good battery life compared to my 17" monster.

Ikon on 7hv
Stock settings fly a bit poo. Still tuning cyclic. Certainly not as good as vbar yet.

Hmm, so what would you say specifically feels off? Are you getting any wobbles on hard cyclic?

Ikon on 7hv
Yup cyclic kicks on hard stops. Elevator drift in rainbows, wobble at headspeed around 1850 it's ok at 1400 and 2100. Reversing piro pogos are a challenge now! Elevator tic tocs are jerky compared to aileron. Aileron tic tocs don't hold very well either.

Ikon on 7hv
It's probably more down to my poor tuning though as I'm still learning the settings.

That was the problem I had tuning the ikon on my trex 700. I like really quick cyclic jabs and I had trouble getting them to look clean. I think its more difficult on a heavier heli. My 6hv has ikon and no matter how quick and hard I hit the cyclic, it would stop on a dime and would be dead still without a single bob. On the trex even when I would first start a cyclic input, it almost looked like it was getting cross input as if it had a phasing issue. I wanted to try reducing phasing 5 degrees or so but never got around to it. I hope you get it dialed in. Its hard for me to tune the ikon because there's just so many different things to try and I don't have a laptop so I have to make 1 change per bank at a time and drive to the field to test. If it doesn't work out, I'll just have to throw the vbar on. I was also considering getting the new 6hvu pitch links. That would at least rule out phase flexing.
Maybe just try raising your main head gain or just d gain since it probably needs a little higher since its somewhat of a heavier 700. |

Put the VBar on. It'll save you time and effort. The only reason i'm trying the TracX is cos I like the Gov wiring and auto bailout (The way it works). So far it's been a pig to setup on the 7HV.
Once I get a feel for it it should fly awesome (The atom 5.5 is flying well) but it's a pita to tune. I think I just need to adjust in smaller increments as big increments (10+) seem to cause different issues elsewhere. I have the new "traditional head" so no phasing issues.
