I would get the 740kv version. I have two and they are great on 10s in a TRex 600e. Unless you want to run 2500 RPM, you don't want a 890 KV running 10s.

With a 17 tooth pinion you can run a governed 2250 RPM with plenty of headroom with the 740kv.

An 890 KV would probably work with a smaller pinion, but from what I understand it would be spinning faster than it it is designed to and would be outside of it's most efficient RPM range. Also a bigger pinion is much easier on the main gear and transmits the power better.

Quick question..Im currently running the stock electrics in my esp and im wanting a more efficient setup. Not to mention I want to get away from the 100a align esc before I turn my heli into a Roman Candle.....Im getting a CC HV110 and also am wanting a scorpion motor..What would be a good motor that I could get that would run 6 cell for now and when my zippy packs die Ill go completely to 8 cell..Also, what would be the biggest 8 cell pack I could run?Ill prob run them in a series.4x2

Hi there,

I have a Trex600 and was planning to go 10S. I just wondered why more people don't go 12S, it seems only OTA has done this. I have seen some 6S 3000 Zippy Flightmax, 20C packs from Hobbyking for only $48, that's $96 for a 12S 3000 flight-pack! 926g total weight. At 12S the current draw should be OK for the 60 amp max. cont. discharge of these batteries?

I had planned CC 85HV (already own this), Scorpion 4025-630, with maybe 15T or 16T pinion, gov. set to 2000 to 2100HS. I am not into hard 3D, but more 'big sky' flying, if you know what I mean!!

Any thoughts would be welcome before I spend all my money! Thanks,

Al

I am building a 12S 600 using the 4025-630 and CC85HV with a 15T pinion. I will be using the Outrage 6S 3000mAh 25C packs I have for my 500. This will be a slow project since I decided to buy a new RotorWorkz HFX frame instead of using the GF frame I have.

That's cool Mike66, great minds think alike!! I like the Outrage batteries but out of my price range at the moment. I also plan to strip down and go with after-market RCM VX frames. Like the top motor mounting on them.

Keep us updated, I'll do the same, but like yours, mine could turn out to be a while coming yet.

What I do not know about this hobby would fill volumes, but it appears that you might be asking too much of one motor for the 6S and 8S configuration. Assuming the main gear remains 170T, the only thing you can change when you increase the battery voltage is the motor pinion.

I use the MrMel Headspeed Calculator with the following assumptions:

  • Scorpion 4025-1100 with a 5mm pinion shaft
  • 6S 5000mAh 25C pack
  • Desired headspeed between 1900 and 2200 RPM
  • CC110HV in governed mode
  • Main gear 170T
With a 15T pinion and 6S configuration , the calculated headspeed is:
75% - 1875
80% - 1927
85% - 1979
90% - 2031

A 16T pinion would give headspeeds more in the desired range for the 6S configuration, but I could not find a 0.7M 16T pinion for a 5mm shaft.

With a 12T pinion and 8S configuration, the calculated headspeed is:
75% - 1999
80% - 2055
85% - 2110
90% - 2166

Waiting for a Neu 1915H/1y for 12s set up and stretched 600, been thinking of using 3x 4000mah before stretch and 2x5000 mah after, but needs testing. After is fine, but 1300g is a bit too much.
I am very happy with the current set up, peaks 2800watts and gives ok flight time.

Can somebody voice their opinion on a Neu motor for my 600ESP? I've got the CC HV110 for power and I'm thinking something for the 6S I have now with room to grow for something like 8S-10S in the future (haven't decided yet). I'd rather sacrifice the cutting edge for compatability but will listen to whatever the real deal is. Bottom line = my 650L motor bogs a bit under heavy load and I'm looking to solve that problem for good. The ESC's softstart was broken from day one so the ESC was upgraded, the next to go is the motor so looking for some educated suggestions from my HF buddies. I'm all ears.

Neu 1910H/1y rocks, Wren has fdr graph showing 2890watts with 8s, I am very happy with mine, here is a flight of Wrens son, it says it all

I would stay away from the Neu 1515 series. I had one and sold it o go to a Scorpion and never looked back. Trouble wit the 1515 series is tha tthe bearings are just too small for the power output of the motor. I understand that the 19XX series use bigger bearings.

Personally, I would recommend the Scorpion 4025 series motors over Neu motors after having both. The Scorpion main shaft at the bearings is 8mm (ground down to 5mm for the pinion), so the bearings are bigger (at least than the 1515 series). Also the bearings and main shaft are VERY easy to change in a Scorpion and spares are cheap.

NUE motors do make good power, but are more fragile and harder to service. That being said, I didn't lose any performance when switching to the Scorpion. It's no dog either...

Well, I guess that pretty much does it for me then. Figures that I move to 8S after buying all these 6S lipos.

No sense in going 8s or 10s. IMHO. I would just go 12s.

The problems currently with 12S:
Very few single pack 12S configurations (any?)
Very few chargers that will do 12S, which means twice as many chargers or wait twice as long to fly. And the few chargers that do 12S are expensive and not as feature rich.
But I'd like to be proven wrong as more S's is always better

If you can buy 2s packs of the same packs as you have it is not so bad, just a little bit on the heavy side.

Nope its actually very cheap. I run two 6s 3000 MAH lipos in series, and then i charge them in parrallel, and they balance perfect, you don't need any new charger etc. and it cost me 50 bucks a pack or 62 per pack after shipping. I got 6 so that i could have 3 flights. Much cheaper then buying any other Lipo. And since its on a 12s set-up, you dont need super high discharge lipos, as i am now only pulling half the amps.

Hmm... I thought you were the big 6S stormtrooper. PlentyFull packs or something like that.
You get 6S 3000 packs from them for $50?
I have CellPro 10S chargers and map the IR of my cells. Charging in parallel would ruin that ability. Then again, if the packs were only $124, I wouldn't much care

Still though, I am not sure I could get comfy with charging in parallel. Do you put the balance plugs in parallel too?

I charge in Parrallel, with a Blinky on each battery. They palance perfect with each other. we will see how long they last. But so far so good. I am a big 6s guy. You can't beat the 1515 2.5D on 6s with an 11tooth. When lipos are new, they feel almost as strong as my 12s setup i have now. The reason i made the swap was because i was ready to buy new packs, and this was much cheaper for me, I already had the ESC, it was just lipos and the Motor. I paid around 380 bucks for 6 X 6s 3000Mah zippy lipos. And got the 1915 1Y. and so far i like the setup. I will be getting a set of 3200 6s 35c fullymax's next to see how they perform too.

What flight time do you get with the 1915 and 3300 packs? Flying style?
I have one on the way, and can not decide to stretch or not.
