no problem. when you spool up remember that you should keep the heli at zero pitch for the full 12 sec it takes to spool up then you will hear the rpm stabilize and then you go fly. if this is done in a hover your governed head speed will be lower than expected.

At mode4, can i use linear throtle curve 0-100 to get heli in air.
Then switch to 1/2 60-65 with no problems ?

You have to use flat curves in order to have the headspeed governed.
You can use variable curves but then there's no governor offcourse..

Another question: if i adjust my endpoints, do i have to redo programming? I've programmed it with endpoints at 100 but would now like to adjust my endpoints.

These are my curves now

N: 0-25-50-75-100
Idle1 60-60-60-60-60
Idle2 65-65-65-65-65

I dont want to strip gears when changing N > IDLE1
How safe is the linear curve?

If you want to be sure, try to adjust your normal curve to where you're close to 60% when hovering. This way it won't make a big jump going from normal to idle1. Or do like i did: make your normal curve 0-60-60-60-60. This way you can still take off and land with the throttle stick if you like. But adjust your normal pitch curve so you don't go full negative collective when you chop the throttle.
Going from 60 to 65 shouldn't strip gears imo.

No, don't use that normal curve for spool up. You will first of all confuse the slow start and then the governor. The way to do it is to set TC as a straight across value of say 50% ( not below that for mode4). Plug in batteries with TH on, after initialization and heli ready for take off, move collective to zero pitch, switch out of TH, wait for heli to spool up, it will give a slight kick or audible rpm stabilization when governor is engaged, then just take off normally and fly.

Don't worry about stripping gears when changing flight modes, the ESC will changed to the new headspeed at a rate of about 3 seconds for ramp up.

Do not adjust endpoints AFTER programming, it was an idea earlier to try and get TC values to be the same across different radios for comparison purposes. Always program with TC of 0-100% and endpoints at 100%. The HeliJive in fact needs the bottom endpoint to be at the zero value in order for you to program auto bail out if you wish to do that.

How can an ESC cost so expensive and:
- doesn't have a heat sink
- plastic case
- doesn't have an option to update firmware
- doesn't have a dataLog for analysis
- doesn't have a software for friendly setups

I'm just trying to figure out how good must be this ESC, despite the lack of these important items listed above, that the Castle Creations ESC have!

Thanks.

1. Has a plate on one side that serves as a heat sink and provides location to mount a larger hear sink

2. It is injection molded (not a case) which means everything is in an oxygen deprived environment so in the very small chance that something does catch fire it won't burn.

3. Firmware can be updated in the US or Germany.

4. There are 3rd party logging systems available the jive wasn't designed to support logging it was designed to be bullet proof.

5. The mode programming is so easy there is no need for software.

This is jive only the kosmik has all the logging and ability to update firmware and program from prog disc or Bluetooth module

The main reason to buy kontronik is reliability and overall performance. I can't count the number of reported castle fires.

I had bad connectors on my motor a while back. It was a 4525 520 ultimate motor on a jive 120. It actually kept going for several flights with the bad connectors, probably pulling over 200 amps, untill they melted through the heatshrink and touched eachother. Than it shut down. Fitted new connectors and new heatshrink and powered back up without an issue.
I don't know what would have happened with another brand esc but i'm guessing it wouldn't have lasted that long and probably spit smoke and/or flames long before the heatshrink melted.

it depends on the health of your packs and your gearing. there are several calculators that can get you close (mrmels headspeed calc)

As long as you use flat "curves" you're ok. The jive can even work at as low as 30% throttle. Allthough the sweetspot is said to be around 65%
That being said, i've been running the jive on my logo at 85% resulting in 2180 headspeed, for over a year. No problem at all.
Just use mrmel's headspeed calculator to see what percentage you need to use to get your desired headspeed.
If you have an iphone or android phone, you can download a headspeed tach app.
I use helitach on my iphone, works great.

[QUOTE=Helioop;2523386]Everyone who uses Kontronik ESCs raves about their quality and reliability, and especially about their superior governor function. Iím now among the converted, but it wasnít easy. The Manual is barely helpful and customer service can range from great to non-existent; Iíve experienced both extremes. Long hard searches on the web didnít unearth much help either. Maybe help is out there, but I didnít find it. So I thought Iíd share some of my hard-found setup experience for others left scratching their heads over setting up these wonderful ESCs.

I'm thinking of buying Kontronic. Motor and ESC. That's why I'm here. Trying to find out what people think. I like the idea that you love the ESC. I'm pretty put off by the fact that you have such hit and miss experience with customer service.

ANYTHING that costs this much money should have Mercedes customer service. This is not the first time I've heard of Kontronic customer service trouble. It's really got me thinking . This hobby is supposed to be fun. When spending on the upper end of the spectrum for a product a person should have nothing but positive experiences. Of course there will always be some quality issues. No one is perfect. But if you do have a quality issue Kontronic should be bending over backwards to help.

I did notice another post here on HeliFreak that had a Kontronic rep looking as if he was really trying to help a guy with a problem. That's nice when you're looking at spending $550.00 on an ESC.

It also worries me that the documentation is lacking. I've found this often in this hobby. I realize that it's tough to write really good instructions. That being said, it's no excuse. Why do manufacturers assume that all of us are at the same level and or experience and therefore do not need much help?

No matter the level, good instructions are a must. I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree though.
