Default Servo maintenance. How far do you go?

I started going through the mass of parts I got in my mCPX acquisition and found 15 servos. 9 more on the airframes. 24 total. In my other thread I had one servo that was funky but after cleaning the wiper and strip it works fine. I knew things would be slow at work today so I brought in the servos and started pulling them apart. Most of them were easy to clean up with alcohol and Q-tips. Some are really dirty and need the threaded transit shaft, bearings and the gears cleaned. I'm planning to spray the nasty ones down with contact cleaner when I get home and add a drop of dry lubricant to each bearing and the shaft threads. I may try to lube the motor shaft too.

So how far do you go when cleaning your servos? Anything else I should do or am I already being too anal about it?

Joe

sounds like you have it covered. I just pull mine apart and clean the contact strips with alcohol and q tip like you and lube the servo shaft a little bit and usually works really well.

I finally got back to the rest of the servos today and got 'em all cleaned up and lubed. The RZ-50 "dry film" lube works great. It's non conductive too so no problems with it on the electronics. Out of the whole pile there were two with bad upper shaft bearings and 4 were missing spur gears. I took two gears from the ones with bad bearings so only two hit the trash can. I'm pretty stoked so many could be saved.
