Try set I parts (I-Gain) of control algorithm to 0.

Does that place the tail and cyclic in rate mode, or just the tail ?
It would be nice if you could switch the tail between modes.

I parts for cyclic and tail are independent, then if you want set only tail to rate mode set I part of tail to 0. Why? In last 2 years i needed rate mode on tail only 2 times by solving some problems and in both cases it was not solution and procedure with setting tail I part to 0 was sufficient for me. |

The G-T5 sure is a handful in rate mode! I did use it to adjust mechanical trim. I think it is still important to have rate mode (white background) to setup the cyclic links and tail to have no drift. This way the gyros don't have to work so hard in hovering type maneuvers. With 3D it probably doesn't matter at all.

Never used that approach to dialing in a controller, or resolving a problem with one.

its because i`m turning this 550 into a tandem version , thats why i asked about rate mode , on my previous tandem heli`s i have used 401 gyros to assist , but could only use them on rate mode , and i`m gonna try my 550 version with the gt5 , but wasn`t sure how it would react to two swash plates
