This is from using a 1/2 gallon of fuel using Klotz Super Techniplate with Castor oil!
Piston looks horrible! Could this be from the castor oil? I'm using a 32:1 mix... |

Never use it in any motor. I used Blenzall oil with castor when I first started in 1997 with gassers and it was terrible, didn't even finish the gallon decided to move on to Yamalube and it was a much better oil at the time. Nowadays the oil of choice is Penzall Marine fully synthetic recommended by Chris Bergen.

Amsoil works quite well I used over 3 gallons of it however I decided to try Penzoil Marine and after so,me time Hanson actually said that my motors come back cleaner to him when Penzoil than they did with Amsoil.
As a disclaimer I didn't have any operating issues with the motors either way, but I can see myself that the piston top is much cleaner when I peek through with a flashlight. You could try it sometime to see if you like it better, or just use what you know works for you. Trouble is with Penzoil you need to get it in gallon containers, but that's not an issue for me I buy it 3 gallons at a time and shipped to my door its cheaper than Amsoil at dealer cost. The stuff doesn't go bad but if you're not going to use that much oil you could split it with Al and Ricky for example. All the best, and we got FL weather here today, 54F snow is almost gone! -=>Raja.

I'll wait to hear more about the final verdict on muffler clogging with that stuff.

The castor is very dirty(high ash content) can cause rings to stick in the land which can make it hard to start. I would recommend a full synthetic without castor, amzoil, pensoil or equivelant. Peace, Al

Thanks Raja, Carey, Al,
I just ordered Pennzoil 100% synthetic from West Marine today! It's funny I live in Pennsylvania and I can't find Pennzoil anywhere! Well I guess this is why my engine won't start anymore, I definitely think my ring is stuck in the groove! If I take the piston out and soak it some solvent (ATF or something) it should break free huh? Or order a new piston and ring? |

Get some Yamalube Ring Free and add it to your gas in the shock treatment ratio given on the bottle.
Try hard and get the motor started and then run it for at least an hour or 4 tanks through. Then run it some more the next few days until you burn the entire gas container through and you will see mprovement.as I did one time with this stuff while working on someone else's machine. -=>Raja.

Yeah I use the klotz R-50 syth, I dont think it has caster oil in it though, have not had any trouble with it at all very clean and hardly no smoke at 32:1 per gal. I think i will try the penz full syth when i run out of oil. Klotz is Kind of exspensive I think I paid over 50 a gal.I am running colman fuel so it smells just like kero.

Well I cooked the piston in ATF outside on the grill for about an hour or so at 250F and the ring came loose.
Buffed up the piston a little to rid of the carbon! Tomorrow I'll start with the reassembly! I hope I get my oil before the weekend so I go flying! |
