alvin, thank you so much, i'm new to the sk540 and need as much info as i can get. i've been bugging georgi for help and he's been fantastic, this will help no end, i think something like this should be in the box with the fbl unit as it would help with a lot of the questions that seem to be asked by newbies to the unit, personally speaking the only fbl unit i've flown is beast x which flies very well with little setup but is limited by the lack of advanced setup, this unit too is easy to setup but has all the extra features that are missing with the beast x and an ideal next step to learning how to tune a fbl system.
once again thank you for your time with this post and i look forward to another instalment Anthony

I agree, this needs to be stickied. But more like his response cut and pasted into a new heading in proper 540 setup guide. Much needed, and a great refresher coarse for me. As I tend to forget that even with non linear swash servo layouts we can compensate for this. Well done!

I know Alvin commented SK users tend to setup the gyro too aggressively, I need part 2 to see where the performance comes from, low bell gain + high control rate + regular cyclic throws can only leave RPM's? or?.....

My Whiplash is flying great on the sk540....
That said - I'm still going to run through this setup guide again just to verify setup! Good stuff!!! I would love to see a revised advanced 3D setup guide just for reference....

Can you confirm what the thin tape looks like? I found the original black foam came loose and now I'm using Spartan grey foam (same as the SK720 used to ship with). It's too soft though. Thanks, Grant |

I've been wrenching for too long. Gotta get back in here, too much good info. It seems to me that the basic settings hiller an bell don't change much but the real tuning comes from the overall gain, hiller decay and accel settings. Control rates of course. That would make things a little simpler.![]()

Fantastic. Good to see the 100% travel on the cyc servos is a load of crap. Don't feel so odd with 120+% now.

+1, mine go off the scale when left to self tune, hence why i lock em down @ 85.

Hard ish 3d.
I changed some settings and put auto tune back on before a fly last night . Spent half my time practicing tick toks. If anything will up the gains that should do it. I'll have a look and see were it ended up again today. What's the rest of your setups? And out if interest. What servos you running? Sent from Android via Trap a talk 2 |

I think mine bell gains ended up at roughly 58/62 over a bunch of mixed flying....
I just updated my setup last night backing the bell gains down and locking them while upping the roll rates. We'll see how it flies possibly this weekend. Question for Alvin though - so based on your write up - should we be overly concerned with the amount of tail throw (%) required to get proper tail pitch range? Reason I ask is - with the recommended c2c ball distance on my Whip (14mm), I'm right about 120%. If I go out 1 hole on the horn (16-17mm) I can get nearly full throw @ 100% but concerned about the reduction in resolution moving out on the horn..... Thoughts?

OK with my new settings auto tune ended up at 67 / 58 on my 270 bank and 62 / 47 on my 210 bank.
Got 7 flights in before this happened doing ticktocks. I'm glad I dont run BEC. 2s lipo. Managed to get down in safely. ![]() Quote:
Id prefer the 20% increase in speed over the 20% reduction in resolution.. |

I should clarify - @ the 100% setup, I'm using nearly all the tail slider which equates to way more blade pitch than the heli can use (40+*).
So ultimately wondering if it makes sense to move the ball out??? Setup seems odd. Not sure what type of pitch range one needs?

And that right there is why I dont really trust soldered connections, too hard to tell if they are OK before they fail.
