After quite a few months of owning mCPx I took it out for the first real outdoor flight. The bird had been unlucky, I tried to fly it in the hotel room after I got it and broke the swashplate within 2 minutes of hovering, then I waited for a replacement part over 2 months, then the collective range was all wrong and so on...
So finally I got it setup right last Sunday and took it to the factory today to fly during a lunch break. It feels like Blade SR in the air, controllable and flyable in some wind, but way underpowered. Tried to do aileron flip a couple of times (very end of the clip), but no luck, at the moment of applying negative pitch the tail blows out and there is nothing to do but TH, since I can't control any inverted orientations. The good thing about mCPx is that it's indestructible over the grass if you hit TH in time

Thanks for the tip, Andy, will keep on trying.
I'll check Phoenix again, but this is a first case where I find a bird 3 times easier to fly in RL than on the sim ![]() What version of Phoenix are you using, maybe they have screwed up something in the last update? Mine's all latest 4.0.k.

yep, that's it, latest one. Just flew it stock. Tail was clearly too good a hold.
Off to bed now. 3 am zzzzzzzzzz

Never mind, just found I had a decent random wind dialed into Phoenix, took it out and now mCPx flies very realistically. The tail doesn't blow out on the sim, but you can also mini-auto-rotate to ground, which in RL isn't possible with motorized tails.
Maybe my main gear is pushed-on too tight, will check this before next flight. In the meantime, good night everyone.

This was a second attempt yesterday to flip the mCPx over with identical results; about 60% of the flip the tail blows out and I hit the TH. Damage: the lower main shaft bearing and the main gear needed to be pushed back in all the way

Just took a quick look at your final video,t looks like your doing the right thing b the tail kicking out on the MCPx is too much pitch and it can't cope. Its not easy with a stock version!
You need to be really gently feeding in the pitch, and almost hold it inverted for slightly longer for it to recover. All in though it looks like your doing the right thing. try take it higher up,, and alot less pitch when going inverted.

Going by your video I would think that you could do it easily on a Heli that's easier to fly!

Probably
With T600N on Phoenix I have 85-90% success ratio. Will keep on trying with mCPx in RL and then on a 450 when FMA finally releases the HD module for CP2, should be in a couple of months.

Went to my buddy's place for the 4th. Haven't flown the Hexa out there yet and he was excited to get some shots of his property.
Wasn't the best of conditions, windy as hell and the air full of smoke from 3 big fires all close to us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=ZiVBuYDqwBY

Loved them all. Aren't you good at pointing your camera when you can't see what you are doing. I can't do that well with my hat cam and I only have to fix it in one spot. You followed a bunch of things and had them centered right up.
Cheers Sutty

Tom, it's amazing
![]() How the heck do you know how to tilt the camera ??? There were moments I was swearing you were flying under the goggles (like when following the flock of birds), but then it's clear from some shots that you weren't, and definitely not when flying through the barn !!! So how did you do it ? ![]()

Thanks guys!
I find that kind of funny as there were a few times I thought I was nuts. Not flying thru the barn, though. That was a lot of fun, actually. Taking off inside the door of the barn, just a few feet away from that metal pole fence was one moment. I couldn't believe the amount of dust and hay particles I kicked up! I was afraid one of my motors would ingest something, or I would cover the lens with crap. Took an air compressor to it when I was all done. As far as tracking things, indeed I do that all by eye, just reading the angles. Some of those, like some of the bird tracking shot were done with the Hexa rather far out and getting hard to see. The more I do it, the better I get at it. Now if I can just get the damn gimbal stabilized,,, His donkeys were a lot of fun. There I am just buzzing around and all of a sudden I feel a light touch and then a breath on my left elbow,,,, never saw or heard them walk up on me. Gave me a start there for a second or two. I think my buddy will be pleased with the vids. He was totally blown away by the precision of the whole damn thing. I got a whole list of places I want to fly at. This sky though, it's so full of smoke.

So, I migrated my fpv gear back over to the Hexa today, but haven't tested it out yet.
Sun was setting, just a breeze for wind, decided to try and catch a sunset, I get so few chances. All is good, and then I loose power!

Why so short on the battery Tom. Everything okay? Didn't seem to come in too hard, and just missed the fence, so well done there.
